    Wish STX still making these heads (need more firm heads)

    Love this head only one in market that can take constant beat down of 6’5 200 lb goalie, Eclipse bends way too easily.

    Nice head to use to learn stringing

    rather than paying to have someone else string the heads, we decided to buy this, relatively cheap head and stringing kit to practice. This head word perfectly and this was his first attempt.

    Great head at a good price, glad I waited til it was on sale

    I got this head for $50 on the current (2021) sale, so at this price it's a worthwhile head. The one major downside to the head is mainly that it's heavy. That's fine at an advanced level, if you're large enough and have played long enough to have good technique then a durable head that's on the heavier side works. I wouldn't recommend this head (even on sale) to middle school to JV level players though. Wait to get it until you've gotten more experience. It took me a while to string to how I like it but that's part of being a weird goalie, sometimes you can be a bit of a perfectionist. The sidewalls took a while with thicker nylon but if you order strings online you'll be fine. The scoop is very nice, and although I've played my career with my hand just underneath the plastic as opposed to gripping the throat, because the throat is kind of stubby I've been using it while fully gripping the plastic. If you're a varsity or college player absolutely get this on sale, I got it because my original Eclipse finally broke but it's been a very good replacement so far. Given the weight, however, I'm likely going to relegate it to my backup once I can get a lighter head. It's a similar weight to the original heavier Nemesis(es) so if you ever played with those you'll have no problem using the Shield.
